Abstract

This study aims to examine public perceptions regarding the roles of men and women within households in Indonesia. Gender-based role inequality remains a significant issue in family structures, where men are often viewed as the primary breadwinners and women are relegated to domestic responsibilities. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method involving 150 respondents from diverse social and age backgrounds. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results reveal that although most respondents have started to embrace the concept of gender equality, strong traditional perceptions about household roles still persist. Women are still widely perceived as more suitable for domestic tasks, while men are considered better suited for making major family decisions. These findings indicate that while societal views on gender roles in the household are gradually shifting, the change is not yet widespread. In conclusion, further education and socialization about equal roles in the household are needed to foster harmony and gender justice in Indonesian society.
