Analisis Praktik Khitbah Pada Masyarakat Gampong Teungoh Kota Langsa

Abstract

The background of this research is the discovery of problems in Gampong Teungoh, such as the practice of marriage sermons by young men and women. However, in the practice of marriage khitbah, there are still several activities which violate the applicable customary provisions; there are even some activities in the practice of khitbah that violate the provisions of Islamic law. Based on the description of the problem, to limit the problems studied, the authors formulate the problem as follows: 1) How is the practice of marriage sermons in Gampong Teungoh, Langsa Kota District - Langsa City? 2) What is the view of Islamic law regarding the practice of marriage sermons in Gampong Teungoh, Langsa subdistrict, Kota, Langsa City? The methodology used in this study is qualitative with an empirical normative approach. In this study, the informants were village heads and other community leaders. The practice of khitbah in Teungoh Gampong, Langsa sub-district, Kota – Langsa City does not violate custom; however, nowadays, there has been a custom shift that has occurred in the Gampong Teungoh community, which has found additional activities carried out in the khitbah procession, while these activities violate customary norms and Islamic law. The additional activity that is carried out is the embedding of gold by the prospective groom to the prospective bride on purpose, of course this violates customary provisions, activities like this are classified as Ikhtilat actions, namely the meeting of men and women (who are not mahrams) at somewhere mixed and there is interaction between men and women on purpose
