This research examines the transformation of Islamic education in the cultural context of society in the Old City of Barus, North Sumatra, which was an important trade and religious center in the past. Before the arrival of Islam, Barus was known as a diverse trade center and strong local culture. With the arrival of Islam, there were significant changes in the social and cultural structure, including in the education system. This research uses a literature review research method or literature study to trace changes in methods, curriculum, culture and educational institutions from the pre-Islamic period to post-Islamization. The research results show that Islamic education in Barus not only adapts local traditions, but also functions as a catalyst for social transformation, integrating Islamic values into people's daily lives. This study highlights the importance of education as a tool for social and cultural change, as well as its contribution to shaping religious and cultural identity in the region.
