Abstract

Reading interest is a person's hobby or interest in being able to interpret medium words with the aim of obtaining the necessary information. This research was motivated by the use of reading corners to increase students' interest in reading at SMP Negeri 13 Langsa. The aim of this research is to describe the use of reading corners to increase students' reading interest. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data was collected using observation, interview and documentation techniques. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 13 Langsa. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the use of reading corners plays an important role in increasing interest in reading. At SMP Negeri 13 Langsa, reading corners are used in various ways to increase students' interest in reading. They are: (1) the reading corner is designed as well as possible. (2) The books are arranged neatly. (3) There are story books and non-fiction. Class teachers should also motivate and encourage students' enthusiasm to read further and utilize reading corners so that the use of reading corners can run well and increase students' interest in reading at SMP Negeri 13 Langsa, also playing a role in improving students' reading abilities. system.
