Abstract

This study examines the transformation of Islamic religious education (PAI) in Indonesia and Malaysia post-reform. The aim is to understand the changes in policies, teaching methods, and challenges faced in PAI education. The method used is library research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The results show significant changes in PAI education policies, including the integration of general sciences with religious knowledge in the curriculum. In Malaysia, the expanded curriculum aims to provide a better understanding of core Islamic values and other religions. In Indonesia, post-reform educational freedom allows for more variation and autonomy in PAI teaching, including an increase in Islamic schools and the integration of Islamic values into the general curriculum. These findings reflect the evolution of policies, teaching methods, technology, and PAI curriculum in Indonesia, emphasizing the importance of adapting Islamic education to local contexts and contemporary challenges. In conclusion, the transformation of PAI shows positive direction but requires a more holistic strategy to address existing challenges
