Abstract

In the context of Islamic education, monotheism plays a crucial role as the main foundation in learning and teaching manners. According to Buya Hamka, a leading Indonesian cleric and thinker, monotheism, namely the belief in the oneness of God and the acceptance that everything comes from and depends on Allah, is the moral and spiritual foundation that underlies interactions between teachers and students. This abstract aims to explore Buya Hamka's views on how monotheism shapes ethics and manners in the educational process. In Hamka's view, monotheism guides an attitude of humility, an awareness of responsibility, and a deep sense of gratitude, all of which contribute to a harmonious and effective learning and teaching environment. Hamka emphasised that good etiquette in learning and teaching includes not only technical skills, but also moral integrity inspired by monotheism. By understanding monotheism as the foundation of adab, the educational process can achieve a higher goal, namely, forming individuals who are not only intellectually intelligent but also spiritually and ethically mature. In this research, the author used a library study research method. This research explores Buya Hamka's contribution in compiling a framework for educational ethics based on the principles of monotheism and its implications for contemporary Islamic educational practices.
